TRAGER® Bodywork

TRAGER® Bodywork and Movement Re-education
By Bob Clark, CMT

The Trager® Approach, developed by Milton Trager, MD., combines bodywork and movement re-education. It is a process of communicating a quality of free, effortless movement through gently elongating, rocking, and supporting the body that facilitates deep relaxation, increases physical mobility, and promotes the body's optimal performance possibilities. The Trager Approach encourages the development of human sensitivity and functional body awareness and has applications in all activities where effective body use is important. It aims to teach, through movement, what is possible for each person’s body. Trager bodywork is educational and does not involve medical diagnosis or treatment.

Some of the benefits are:

* discovery of pain-free ease in movement
* functional management of neuromuscular disorders
* more rapid recovery from injury, trauma, and surgery
* enhanced athletic performance and body awareness

A Trager® session is 60 to 80 minutes, including tablework and movement explorations. Effective bodywork can be received in any safe and comfortable state of dress or undress. For Trager work or massage, wearing soft cotton sports clothing is best if you are more at ease briefly clothed. If you are in therapy or under a doctor's care, it is recommended that you inform your therapist or doctor of your intention to do this work.

Note: TRAGER®, is a registered services mark of Trager International
