Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine, which has been used for several thousand years for women with fertility problems, is the most popular treatment modality used. Approximately 20 percent of women experiencing difficulties conceiving have no medical abnormalities causing the fertility problems, and these women are seemingly the ones who achieve the most success with acupuncture and herbs. According to modern research, acupuncture balances the neural/hormonal system in the body, so it stands to reason that this is why this form of treatment can assist in achieving pregnancy. Acupuncture can also help to complement in-vitro fertilization (IVF) procedures because of its ability to provide deep relaxation. There is some speculation that it also may help to reduce uterine contractibility during these procedures.

It is a known fact that stress can be an obstacle blocking fertility. Stress has many physiologic consequences, such as increasing muscular tension, blood pressure and heart rate, and stomach acid production, as well as creating imbalances in our hormonal regulatory mechanisms. Because each person is an individual, we assist patients in assessing their own unique stressors, and then we may integrate other services for stress reduction. We utilize dream work, guided imagery, massage, meditation, Qi Gong, and other relaxation techniques to help reduce the adverse effects of stress.

One of the most important aspects of fertility treatment is to engage the patient in his/her own treatment planning by offering a variety of individual options.
