Pregnancy Massage

Maternal Massage offers tremendous benefits to both mother and child. Studies have shown that women who have been massaged during pregnancy have less aches and pains, less anxiety, and spend less time in the hospital than control groups.

Potential Benefits
• Reduces stress and promotes relaxation; improves infant and maternal well-being • Increases blood and lymph circulation; reduces blood pressure • Reduces muscle and skeletal pain and strain; facilitates respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, and other physiological functions • Contributes to body awareness; preparation for active birthing • Contributes to shorter, less painful labor; reduces labor complications, medications, and interventions • Facilitates postpartum recovery; encourages touch, emotional support and physical nurturing

Precautions
• Positioning: It is recommended a pregnant woman not lie on her abdomen (prone) • Side lying or semi-reclining are appropriate positions • Legs: No deep massage or Swedish techniques to inner legs • Joints: Avoid overextension of joints • Each trimester has specific precautions; therefore it is recommended you speak to an experienced Pre- and Perinatal Massage Therapist before receiving therapeutic massage during pregnancy.

We offer massage for women in all phases of childbearing
• Prenatal Massage: to relieve emotional stress, address aches and pains; provides relaxation for mother and increases blood flow to baby; contributes to well-being • Childbirth Massage: massage and guided imagery are combined during childbirth to facilitate relaxation, energy conservation, and breathing. Massage assists in relief of muscle cramping, exhaustion, and pain • Postpartum Massage: provides nurturing to mother, helps soothe muscle strain, provides support and stimulates deep relaxation, contributing to quicker recovery • Fertility Massage: Relaxation is a key component to a holistic approach to fertility. Guided Imagery can assist mental/emotional/spiritual wellness
